Huvadhoo Aid was founded as a charity in 1986, as Hoadedhoo Association for Development. In the 2000s, we adopted a human rights-based approach to development. In 2010, we restructured the organization and renamed it as Huvadhoo Aid, changing its mandate focused on social justice and community empowerment.

We work to see a just, fair and sustainable society, in which everybody enjoys human rights and freedom to a life of dignity, under the theme of “friendship, peace and progress”.

Our strategy is to build stronger society for social, economic and environmental justice, driven by people living in rural communities and exclusion.

Our work falls into four broad areas: democratic governance, human rights, climate change and environment, and community empowerment at large.

Huvadhoo Aid has received President’s Award for Courage in 2007, recognizing the activities and programs of the Huvadhoo Aid.
